55-plus living with a design flair at Traditions of America

Customize the home of your dreams at Traditions of America in Lititz

Traditions of America at Lititz, a 55-plus community in the heart of Lititz, offers a variety of Single Family and Garden Homes with award-winning designs and a host of luxurious options and features. But what makes each home truly special is the personal touch that comes from its homeowners.
Customizing a home at Traditions of America is like a journey, says Design Consultant Kaitlin Krause. For some buyers, that journey finds them straying far from the standard features. For others, it takes only one or two tweaks to create the home of their dreams.
“A lot of other builders don’t really have the ability to customize,” Krause says, noting that the beauty of Traditions of America is that the customer can come in and change anything — thanks in part to the community’s expansive (and inspirational) Design Studio. Though Krause is quick to point out that these homes standard features are often stylish enough to satisfy the most discerning homebuyer.
The Lititz community recently hosted a Meet the Designer event to showcase some of the possibilities, from flooring and fixtures to interior design. Manufacturer’s representatives for flooring, tile, cabinetry, wiring and security systems were on hand, and Krause gave a presentation on the latest design trends. “That’s especially helpful for customers who haven’t built a home in 30 years,” she says.
Among those trends are brass fixtures, antique-look plumbing, and some new alternatives to popular stainless steel appliances, including slate, black stainless steel and bronze finishes.
Krause addressed the growing popularity of everything from travertine to penny tile, as well as the many ways to incorporate tile into the home. “We have a catalog that goes from one end of a budget to another, so everybody has a chance to make a selection they like,” she says.
The same is true for flooring, where new materials and color options abound. Traditions of America recently started offering vinyl plank flooring in its homes, she says, because of its improved high quality and durability.
For kitchens, the sky’s the limit. “You can get a custom gourmet kitchen right out of the Food Network,” Krause says.
Customizations can include changing paint, stain or wood style, making adjustments in the height of the cabinet base or installing the new toe-kick vacuum beneath the cabinets. Granite countertops are standard in all Traditions of America homes, but buyers can alter the color of the granite or choose a different material altogether, such as marble or quartz, Krause says.
The Meet the Designer event was also an opportunity for potential buyers to learn about smart home features available at Traditions of America at Lititz. Tankless hot water heaters and keypad garage entry are standard, but there is so much more to explore. “There is always new technology coming out,” Krause says.
Part of the appeal of Traditions of America’s high energy, low-maintenance lifestyle is that residents can “lock and leave” without worry. For those inclined to take extended trips or spend winters in a warmer climate, security packages are available that allow them to control many of their home’s functions from their smartphone.
Buyers can also upgrade their smart home quotient with everything from theater and speaker systems to Nest thermostats.
A big part of the journey of creating a personalized home at Traditions of America is receiving personalized service from the Design Consultants.
“We start with structural selections and whether you’d like to alter the home from a layout standpoint,” Krause says. “Once we know what we’re building, we focus on design and materials. We try to make it really, really easy.”
Krause recalled one new homeowner who came to them with a swatch of fabric and wanted to create a loft space that coordinated with the color of a flower in the fabric. They chose the perfect carpet and paint for an accent wall, designed a bathroom with coordinating colors and found lighting that accented the casual nature of the fabric. The result was a perfect oasis. “She had her little retreat,” Krause says. “That loft became her wife den.”
While some come with a clear vision of their dream home, Krause especially enjoys working with those who want help discovering that vision.
“I love design. It’s what I do,” Krause says. “I love to be involved in showing a customer what’s going to look best.”
